Revamp & modernization of Tata Pickling line 22

On December 27th 2010, a devastating fire reduced Tata’s Pickling Line 22 in IJmuiden to ashes.
Although there were no injuries, it was a disaster for the Dutch Tata Steel site and its customers.
Pickling Line 22 is one of three pickling lines at the IJmuiden site. Citing reasons of force majeure the order book was closed for cold-rolled and hot-rolled pickled steel and for galvanized steel. The same day, the management in IJmuiden began searching for alternative supply routes. Recently the capacity of Pickling line 12 was increased by adding an extra looper section. In this Project IP-Solutions was active for planning & scheduling.
Parallel to this outsourcing operation all available workforce are being applied to the reconstruction of Pickling Line. Major goal is to start up production within 12 months after the devastating fire.
Siemens VAI France has been awarded the turn-key contract for revamping and modernization.
Bobach Service Nederland, a qualified partner in providing mechanical erection and installation services within large scale complicated industrial projects recently has been awarded for the mechanical erection contract. Bobach knowledge is based on experiences and references gained in many complex projects & contracts and meets the state of the art technology, in compliance with all relevant standards and regulations. All piping systems (including detail engineering!) have been subcontracted to Pipingcare BV.
IP-Solutions is on behalf of Bobach Service Nederland responsible for the Erection Management.

DSCS for wreck removal of the Hyundai 105

DSCS for wreck removal of the Hyundai 105

Smit Salvage has currently several wreck removal project in execution. One of the most challenging ones is the removal of car carrier Hyundai 105, lost following a collision with a tanker off Singapore some years ago. This vessel had some 5,000 cars on board at the time of the loss.

1st step was the removal of fuel within the wreck. Around 150 tons of HFO was recovered during this operation. The main wreck removal started in February 2011 and will take 12 to 16 months.

Equipment mobilised on scene for the Hyundai 105 operation included the accommodation/work barge Smit Ibis, which acted as surface platform for the oil removal. Subsequently, the two sheerlegs Taklift 1 and Smit Cyclone (on the semi-submersible ocean going transportation barge Giant 3, towed by Union Boxer) arrived. The wreck is being horizontally chain-cut into sections and the scrap then taken ashore. Smit’s HDW large hydraulic grab is in use to clear the wreck and debris in the surrounding area.

IP-Solutions designed, produced and delivered a unique tool for cutting the drill string after a horizontal directional drilling machine (Terra) has drilled a hole under the wreck. This Drill String Cutting System (DSCS) is a unique design with a capacity of 2.500 Nm for an operational depth of approx 54 mtrs. IP-Solutions worked out the design and delivered 2 sets within a period of 8 weeks.
For this specific design many Holmatro components have been applied.
